Standards Warning Log

Standards Warning Logs are still important pieces of documentation. It’s important that you write them the same as Incident Reports, so it can be properly used in our Standards Process

GOOD examples:

* if you are not including the time in your written account, please ensure it’s added to the ‘Time of Incident’ section of the form *

Open Alcohol: Resident Mark and his 3 friends were found drinking alcohol in the Similkameen Game room. RAs Kate and Wesley informed the resident and the other students to not drink in the lounge anymore and need to put alcohol away. They understood and complied. When both RAs came back to check the alcohol was gone and they were not drinking anymore. All of them were informed that they will be documented for this action.

Noise: RA Prince received a call at a 11:11 from a resident in Cassiar about her upstairs neighbor being loud past quiet hours. RA Prince and RA Ronnie went to the source of the noise, room 318A, and knocked on the resident’s door. Loud music with lots of bass could be heard coming from inside the room. After opening the door, RA Ronnie greeted Resident Erin and mentioned that as it was late, the resident would have to lower their music’s volume and that RAs Prince and Ronnie had received a noise complaint. Erin apologized, and reduced the volume of their music.

Sports Indoors: RA Nikita was walking back to her room after her on-call round when she noticed Resident Mark’s door. There was a basketball hoop hung over his door. Mark and three of his friends were outside his room in the hallway trying to play basketball. RA Nikita informed them that playing sports indoors was a violation of the residence contract and that they must go outside to play. Resident Mark understood and agreed to go outside. RA Nikita also let them know that since it was against the residence contract, it would need to be documented.

Smoking not in a gazebo: Residents Amy and Fred were found smoking outside Cascades Building A and were asked to stop doing so by RA Muizz, and instead go to the designated smoking gazebo. RA Muizz let Amy and Fred know that the situation would be documented. Amy and Fred understood and complied.

BAD examples:

“Lots of noise coming from their room because they left their door open, told them to close their door and keep the volume down. They did what I asked”

“RAs Jacob and Tayana were on their rounds when they noticed a strong tobacco smell in Valhalla’s 1st floor south wing. They sniffed until they identified room 137 B and knocked on the door to ask the resident about it. They asked the resident if they had burned anything in the room and the resident said no but RA Jacob noticed the smoke detector was covered. RA Jacob and RA Tayana reiterated the residence standards to the resident and explained that they would be documenting the situation.”

  • This one is a bad example because this is a INCIDENT REPORT rather than a SWL
